What is known

Sung Jinwoo (Shadow Monarch) is the headline raid unit of Update 2 (October 8, 2026) — the Shadow Monarch update is named after him. He drops only from the new Shadow Gate raid (nightmare) at a 3% chance per clear, guaranteed by 32 clears, and the official team even compensates affected players with him. His ultimate is a two-parter: cast Monarch's Domain, then press ult again to call Kaisel — community creators were asking whether he is "the first character with two ults" before launch. He is the only unit with a dedicated Monarch evolution path in the evolution menu. No rarity tier has been published for him, so this page tracks him outside the rarity ladder.

How to get Sung Jinwoo

He is a Shadow Gate raid drop, so the loop is: clear the raid, roll the 3% chance, repeat. The pity is generous by raid standards — guaranteed by your 32nd clear — and clear rewards (35,425 coins + 710 gems per run) make the grind pay for itself along the way:

  • Shadow Gate is nightmare-only — you need Nightmare difficulty access first (see the [difficulty guide](/guide/difficulties/)).
  • Attempts are 5 runs, then a 30-minute cooldown (reworked from the launch-day 10 runs per 3 hours; bought attempts no longer exist — pre-purchase attempts still stack and are used after your free ones).
  • Red Gates (1 in 5 runs) make enemies 50% tougher but pay 1.8x coins and gems plus extra shadow essence — worth taking while you grind.
  • Gate rank S/A/B clears pay a +30/20/10% bonus — push your rank before farming the pity.

Moveset — the two-part ultimate

Sung Jinwoo's kit made Discord history before he even shipped — developers teased him as the first unit you could describe as having two ultimates:

  • Ultimate: Monarch's Domain — press the ult button again while it is active to call Kaisel, his flying beast.
  • The rest of the kit runs on shadows: the raid's ARISE mechanic (raise fallen elites as your own shadows) previews the theme.
  • Stage II of his evolution path makes Igris fight next to you in every mode, effectively adding a permanent shadow ally to whichever unit you are playing — as long as Sung Jinwoo is the one evolved.

The Monarch evolution path

Update 2 gave Sung Jinwoo his own path in the [evolution menu](/guide/evolution/), a three-stage progression no other unit has. Each stage is a named beat from Solo Leveling:

  • Stage I — The System: +4% damage per level in runs.
  • Stage II — Igris: Igris fights next to you in every mode.
  • Stage III — Demon King's Longsword: longer M1s and +50% M1 damage.
  • The Igris tree levels his damage, speed, lifesteal and shadows separately.
  • Evolution materials come from the raid: shadow essence, Igris' crest, shadow's cloak and monarch's blessing are the new Shadow Gate materials.

Sung Jinwoo vs Hu Tao — which raid unit to chase first?

Both raids now drop a headline unit, and both are nightmare-only:

  • Hu Tao (Flame Director) is a confirmed LYTH pull with a published buff table; she awakens with Staff of Homa + Ghost.
  • Sung Jinwoo has no published rarity but a defined 32-clear pity and a three-stage evolution path that ends in +50% M1 damage.
  • If your group already farms Spirited Away, keep going — Hu Tao's numbers are proven. Sung Jinwoo is the fresh grind with the bigger runway (evolution stages keep paying out after you get him).

Notes

  • Obtainment: Shadow Gate raid (nightmare) drop only — 3% per clear, guaranteed by 32 clears
  • Ultimate: Monarch's Domain — press ult again to call Kaisel
  • No published rarity tier (raid-exclusive; treated as Unknown on the tier list)
  • The official team compensated Robux-purchased raid attempts with him after launch-day bugs
