Traits are rolled modifiers on your weapons. The system is simple but has three rules that catch players out — here is how it actually works.
Rerolls are per-weapon
This is the one that matters: rerolling traits only affects the currently equipped weapon. Your second slot’s traits are never touched, so you can experiment on your off-weapon without risking your main carry.
What grades exist
Traits come in at least Legendary and Exotic grades (the two grades the game asks you to confirm before rerolling). The full trait pool and each trait’s effect values are not published by the developer — we list grades only and hold off on effect numbers until they are verified.
You can’t farm rerolls right now
Asked directly in the official Discord (“Is there a way to grind trait rerolls?”), the community answer is no — not yet. Current reroll sources:
- Codes — the PATCH2 code included 3 trait rerolls, and compensation codes regularly include them
- Quest rewards — check your quest list before and after each run
Since supply is code-driven, redeem every code the day it drops (our codes page tracks them) and don’t burn rerolls on weapons you plan to replace.
Reroll safety rails
- Replacing a Mythic+ weapon or rerolling a Legendary/Exotic trait pops a confirmation dialog first.
- Failed rerolls tell you why they failed — read the message instead of assuming the system is broken.
- There is no auto-reroll; every reroll is manual.
